Reid Olson returns to Albert Lea City Council

The Albert Lea City Council voted at its Aug. 13 meeting to appoint Reid Olson to the council, filling the vacancy left by the resignation of Fourth Ward Councilor Sherri Rasmussen in June.

Olson served as Fourth Ward councilor from 2007 to 2022, losing the seat to Rasmussen by only 23 votes in November 2022, with the final tally of 572 for Olson and 595 for Rasmussen.

Murray expressed his enthusiasm for Olson’s return, stating, “We’re happy to have Reid Olson back on the city council. He has a lot of experience, and we look forward to his help as we go through budget items this fall. His knowledge will be very critical as we work through that.”

Olson also served on the Albert Lea Housing and Redevelopment Authority (HRA) Board.

“He has a lot of experience with the HRA and housing is a huge issue in Albert Lea, so we look for him to jump right into that again and make his knowledge available to the rest of the committee,” the mayor said.

Olson expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to serve the community again, saying, “I do not take lightly the responsibilities that these seats hold … I’m ready to get to work.”

Councilor Olson can be reached at 507-391-4814 or [email protected].

Olson will serve the remaining 2-plus years left in the 4-year term. The only option for filling the seat was an appointment because the ballot for the November election was already finalized.
