Brookside boat landing closed Sept. 3-5 for equipment removal

With the habitat project completed for Fountain Lake, the Brookside boat landing, 623 Richway Drive, will be closed Tuesday through possibly Thursday, Sept. 3-5, for equipment removal.

Brennan Company, the contractor for the habitat project, has finished installing rock reefs and will be removing its crane and other equipment. The company was using the City Beach parking lot at 300 Johnson Street for its staging area. Brennan plans to repair the lot and sidewalk, damaged by heavy equipment, this fall.

During the Brookside closure, boaters may use the Department of Natural Resources landing on Edgewater Bay near the intersection of State Highway 13 and 733rd Avenue.

The rock reefs and other features are part of a Shell Rock River Watershed District project to improve Fountain Lake through fish habitat, shoreland restoration and public access. The watershed district plans to resume dredging of the lake and install a public dock off Bridge Avenue in 2025.
