Traffic crash in Albert Lea

On May 19, 2024 at approximately 1:12 p.m., the Albert Lea Police Department (ALPD) was dispatched to a vehicle versus motorcycle crash near the intersection of Bridge Avenue and Westron Street. Officers arrived on scene and located the motorcycle driver lying in the roadway injured. Medical attention was provided and the driver was later transported to Mayo Clinic Health System-Albert Lea via ambulance.

Officers determined that Orville Johnson, age 87, was driving north on Bridge Avenue in a 2017 Chrysler Pacifica and attemped to turn west onto Westron Street. Christopher Seul, age 35, was traveling south on Bridge Avenue on a 2006 Yamaha CP250 scooter. Johnson failed to yield to Seul who had the right-of-way, causing Seul to strike the passenger side of the van. Seul was not wearing a helmet and does not have a motorcycle endorsement, according to ALPD.

Seul suffered serious injuries and was later airlifted to Mayo Clinic for further medical treatment.

ALPD was assisted by Albert Lea Fire Rescue and Mayo Clinic Ambulance.
