Structure Fire in Albert Lea

Albert Lea Fire Rescue responded to 1201 Southview Lane today, May 7, at 9:30 a.m. for smoke coming from a bedroom window. Upon arrival fire crews found smoke coming from the back side of the home.

Crews made a fire attack and extinguished the blaze quickly. Crews worked on the scene for about an hour checking for fire extension and investigating the cause of the fire.

A person living at the residence was home at the time of the fire and was able to get out before fire crews arrived on scene. The person was treated and released by Mayo Clinic Ambulance Service.

The Albert Lea Police Department assisted on the incident.

The cause of the fire was a battery malfunctioning in an electric skateboard while charging. Albert Lea Fire Rescue reminds residents to only use approved charges for devices and to not charge lithium batteries in the living areas of homes.

Damages are estimated at $5,000.
