May 23, 2013 – The contractor (Ulland Brothers) plans to begin work on the reconstruction of the E. Main Street Service Road from Morningside Road to Prospect Avenue this Thursday, May 25th. The first step will be to remove the existing asphalt surface. Once it has been removed, they will ramp up gravel at all of the parking lot entrances in order to provide access over the Memorial Day weekend. Next week they will begin the process of removing the existing curb & gutter and will begin excavating and installing the new aggregate road base. Access will be difficult during this time. Businesses that have access from Stevens Road, Prospect Avenue or Morningside Road are encouraged to use them as much as possible during this time. The contractor will make every effort to keep access available, but due to the narrow roadway, there may be times this will not be possible.
June 5, 2017 – The contractor removed the bituminous surface and curb & gutter last week. They also replaced the storm sewer catch basins and piping in front of Autozone. This week they plan to begin the process of excavating and placing the new aggregate base.
June 9, 2017 – This week the contractor completed excavating and installing the new aggregate base. On Thursday they were able to complete most of the concrete work with the exception of a few gaps that were needed to maintain access to a few of the businesses. Once the concrete has had time to cure properly these gaps will be filled. The contractor anticipates this happening late next week or early the following week. The contractor also placed the bituminous overlay on the section of frontage road in front of Trumbles.
The contractor is tentatively scheduled to begin removing and replacing curb & gutter in the neighborhood area the week of June 19-13. We anticipate the concrete work to take 2 to 3 weeks.
June 14, 2017 – The contractor has started saw-cutting some of the curb & gutter and drive approaches in preparation for the replacement. They have also begun making repairs to manholes in the project area. The contractor plans to begin with the replacement of settled or damaged sections of curb & gutter next week (June 19-23). The pink marks on the curb indicate sections that are scheduled for replacement. If there is a curb scheduled to be replaced across your driveway the contractor will be responsible for notifying you prior to any interruption in access so that you can move your vehicles out. After the new concrete has been placed we ask that residents do not drive on it for a period of 7 days to allow the concrete to cure properly.Concrete work is expected to take approximately 2 to 3 weeks.
June 16, 2017 – The contractor began making repairs to manholes in the project area this week. Next week they will begin the process of removing and replacing damaged or settled concrete curb & gutter. If the weather cooperates the concrete work is expected to take 2 to 3 weeks. The contractor also completed placement of the concrete curb & gutter along the E. Main Street service road. The concrete work is not complete. They also placed the first lift of bituminous patching on the asphalt driveway aprons. The next step will be final shaping of the aggregate base. They do not have a firm schedule for this work.
June 23, 2017 – No work took place this week, weather permitting the contractor plans to complete the final grading of the aggregate base tomorrow (Saturday, June 24th) along the E. Main Street service road. They plan to place the first lift of bituminous on Monday of next week. The contractor did complete most of the curb & gutter replacement within the neighborhood project. Next week they plan to finish installing the concrete curb & gutter and driveway aprons. A reminder to the residents, we ask that you do not drive on any new concrete for at least 7 days to allow the concrete to properly cure.
July 6, 2017 – Last week the contractor completed the remainder of the concrete work. This week the contractor will complete the bituminous patching and driveway access to affected residents. The contractor has tentatively scheduled the edge milling for July 20th. They would also remove the bituminous surface on Hale Drive at that point and begin the process of excavating and installing the new aggregate base between Keystone Drive and Quisley Street at that time. Also this week the contractor placed the new bituminous surface and patched in all the asphalt driveway aprons along the E. Main Street service road. Full access is now restored along the service road. The only work remaining is aggregate shouldering and turf restoration. The contractor does not have a firm schedule for those items.
July 13, 2017 – The contractor has completed the curb & gutter and sidewalk replacements. Next the contractor plans to complete the edge milling process late this week or by midweek next week. No parking signs will be placed the night before milling will start. The contractor will begin placing the new asphalt overlay within two weeks after the milling is completed. Milling and sub-cut work along Hale Drive will also begin during this time. Street access and parking on Hale Drive may be limited at times during this work. The contractor has also begun prepping for and placing sod in the areas disturbed by the curb & gutter and sidewalk replacement. time.
July 18, 2017 – Last week the contractor continued repairs to manholes in the project area. This week they will complete the edge milling and remove the bituminous surface on Hale Drive. After the bituminous surface has been removed they will excavate and place the new aggregate base and place the first of two lifts of bituminous. If time permits, they plan to place the second lift of Hale Drive and the bituminous overlay on all the neighborhood streets by the end of this week. Work along the E. Main Street frontage road included placing the aggregate shoulder on the south side of the road, the only work remaining is placement of the sod along the north side.
July 21, 2017 – The contractor began placing the bituminous overlay this week, but the process was slowed by the rain on Friday. They will resume paving tomorrow and hope to finish the overlay early next week. Tomorrow they will also begin excavating and installing the aggregate base on Hale Drive. They hope to have this completed and the new bituminous surface placed next week.
July 31, 2017 – The contractor completed placing the overlay on Saturday of last week. With the exception of Hale Drive, the only work remaining is sod placement and punch list items. The contractor will be installing drain tile on the east side of Hale Drive this week. Once this has been completed they will finish final shaping of the aggregate base. Sod was placed along the E. Main Street service road last week, the only remaining work is the punch list items.
August 7, 2017 – Last week the contractor placed subsurface drain tile on the east of Hale Drive. This week they plan to complete final shaping of the aggregate base and place the new bituminous surface. They will also begin placing sod on disturbed areas.
August 11, 2017 – This week the contractor placed the bituminous surface on Hale Drive and completed the placement of sod on all areas disturbed by the project. All work has been completed except for some minor cleanup.
